Khammam: District Collector VP Gautham advised the farmers to go for alternative crops in Yasangi season.
Participating in a farmers’ awareness programme at Gannavaram cluster in Wyra mandal on Thursday, the Collector said that farmers should focus on dry crops in Yasangi as there was no permission to set up paddy procurement centres in Yasangi season.
Paddy produced in Vaanakalam season would completely be procured but in Yasangi, paddy should not be taken up even in one acre of land. The Central government has made it clear that Yasandi paddy will not be purchased, he said.
That was why awareness meetings were being organised in all clusters to explain the prevailing situation in terms of paddy cultivation and to motivate farmers to take up alternate crops in the yasangi season, Gautham said.
The Collector clarified that input support under Rythu Bandhu scheme would be also extended to those who were taking up alternate crops, therefore farmers need not worry. Paddy could be sown if farmers have an agreement with mills or for the purpose of seeds, he noted. District Agriculture Officer Vijayanirmala and others were present.
