Goats found dead after drinking polluted water in Kothagudem’s Manuguru

Nineteen goats belonging to a farmer in Manuguru mandal of Kothagudem district died after allegedly drinking contaminated water from a stream. Farmers blamed SCCL’s SMS plant and urged officials to stop polluted water discharge into nearby fields

Kothagudem: As many as nineteen goats belonging to a farmer at Ramnagar in Samithi Singaram area in Manuguru mandal in the district were found dead on Sunday.

The farmer, Rachakonda Ramulu complained that the animals died after drinking water from a stream flowing from the blasting section office located near the Manuguru OC-2 check post and suffered a loss of Rs 2 lakh.

The farmer attributed the deaths to the polluted water discharged from the SCCL’s site-mixed slurry explosives (SMS) plant. The local farmers noted that 40 goats belonging to a farmer Miriyala Isaac and 30 belonging to Perika Sai had also died after drinking water from the same source in the past.

The farmers and the locals wanted the SCCL as well as concerned officials to take measures to address the problem and prevent the SMS plant from discharging polluted water into the fields.
