Hyderabad: Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan on Saturday said India especially Hyderabad, was emerging as the pharmaceutical capital of the world and many countries were looking at India for the supply of COVID-19 vaccine which is expected to begin soon. She pointed out that Hyderabad has been supplying medicines to more than 150 countries.

The Governor, along with her husband and nephrologist Dr P Soundararajan, visited the NIMS Hospital here and formally launched the COVID vaccination programme for the frontline warriors in the State. She presented them with flowers and appreciation letters after the vaccination and thanked them for their efforts in fighting the pandemic. She said the beginning of the COVID-19 vaccination was the proudest moment for the country and the COVID immunization programme for the frontline warriors was a thanksgiving gesture for their selfless services.

Speaking on the occasion, Tamilisai Soundararajan stated that due to the relentless efforts of the scientists, India came up with its own vaccine which reflected the true spirit of self-reliant India as per the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Atma Nirbhar Bharat. “We must salute our scientists for the vaccine development and making it available. This is the greatest achievement by our scientific community and shows their capability,” she said.

Dispelling the myths about the vaccines, the Governor said that the vaccines made in India were very safe. There should not be any hesitancy to take the vaccine, she added. She reiterated that the vaccines were developed and cleared as per the strict safety norms in place adhering to the international standards. “If there are any allergic or other minor complications due to the vaccination, there are special arrangements in place to deal with any such complications,” she added.

Responding to queries as to when she was getting the vaccination done, Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan stated that the front line warriors were rightly being given priority and as the First Citizen of the State, she would take the vaccine along with all other citizens. She appealed to the people to be safe and adhere to all the preventive norms till the vaccination is completed.
