Hyderabad: Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan has launched Anti-Trafficking in Persons, a handbook developed by US Consulate General Hyderabad and Prajwala, an anti-trafficking NGO, to train district level law enforcement and prosecution agencies in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
Clark Ledger, acting Consul General, US Consulate and Sunitha Krishnan, founder of Prajwala attended the launch at Raj Bhavan. Aimed towards first-class magistrates, sessions judges, prosecutors, child welfare committee members among others, the handbooks have all the relevant laws, local policies and legislation and other information. The handbooks will also have court rulings for each State so that the prosecutors have everything they need at one place.
Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan expressed her anguish about trafficking and reiterated that the government was committed to fight this issue.
Ledger said, “All of us, government, law enforcement, society and citizens, must combine our resources to prevent trafficking. We have also partnered with anti-trafficking organisations in India and are proud of partnering up with Prajwala.”
Krishnan stressed on the need to listen to the voices of the victims and on the importance of developing victim-centric, anti-trafficking programmes.
