Hyderabad: The State government has started extending financial assistance in the form of pensions to senior and veteran artistes of rural and folk art forms to support them, Tourism and Culture Minister V Srinivas Goud said on Tuesday.
Replying to a question raised by MLC Gorati Venkanna in the Legislative Council, he said the government issued sanction order for enhancement of old age artiste pension from Rs 1,500 to Rs 3,016 per month with effect from June 1. At present, there are 2,726 artistes getting this benefit. A special pension of Rs 10,000 per month to four old age artistes, who were in poor condition, was being provided.
Opportunities have been provided to rural and folk artistes of Oggu Katha, Oggu Dolu, Chinduyakshaganam, Dappu Kolatam. Gussadi, Madhuri, Bonala Kolatam, Bonalu, Bindla Katha, Sharada Katha and Penandumatla Kinnera to display their art forms during State festivals like Bonalu, Bathukamma, State Formation Day, World Folk Day and other programmes and festivals throughout the calendar year.
Training sessions, workshops and inter-State cultural exchange programmes with South Zone Cultural Centre (SZCC) and South Central Zone Cultural Centre (SCZCC) have been organised to take forward the legacy of the art forms of Telangana to the next generations.
A few documentaries of senior artistes and other rare art forms are being made to preserve the rich cultural heritage of rural folk and tribal art forms of Telangana and showcased in the cinevaram in Paidi Jairaj preview theatre in Ravindra Bharathi. To another question, the Minister said Telangana Tourism Department has submitted a detailed project report on the development of tribal and eco-tourism circuit in Adilabad district under Swadesh Darshan Scheme of the Ministry of Tourism.
