Karimnagar: BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar on Friday said the government will pay farmers the Minimum Support Price of Rs 1,888 for fine variety of paddy.
Pointing out that cultivation of fine variety of rice was not new for farmers in the State, he urged them not to fall for the false propoganda spread by the opposition parties. “Political leaders are provoking farmers to set their crop on fire for their own political gains. Farmers should maintain restraint and not sell their produce to middlemen at low prices,” the Minister said, after inaugurating a paddy purchasing centre at Durshed in the district. He also categorically said there was no scope to increase the MSP for fine variety of paddy.
The State government, he said, aimed to procure every grain produced by farmers. It was decided to establish 6,490 PPCs in the state. Of that 2,660 centers have already been established and procured 2.76 lakh metric tons from 41,076 farmers.
72,000 metric tons of fine variety rice was procured and Rs 499 crore was paid to farmers, minister informed and assured to purchase discoloured paddy after obtaining permission from Food Corporation of India.
