People argue with officials at a gram sabha in Mahabubnagar on Friday.
Hyderabad: People, especially women continued to vent their ire against the Congress government at gram sabhas across the State charging that eligible persons were not included in the lists, while ineligible persons, particularly those affiliated to the Congress party, were being included in the list.
Mild tension prevailed at a few gram sabhas as villagers argued with the officials and damaged the tents. At Mogilipenta village under Mallapur mandal of Jagtial, former Sarpanch Nagaraju doused himself with petrol and tried to self-immolate, alleging that eligible persons were missing from the beneficiaries list. However, after officials alerted the police, they shifted him to the police station.
Similarly, at Ramalakshmipuram village under Kodad mandal of Suryapet district, residents damaged the tents and stage set up for gram sabha after learning that ineligible persons were included in the list for ration cards and Indiramma Indlu. Heated arguments took place between the police and the residents.
At Ashwaraopeta mandal headquarters in Khammam, Congress leaders entered into arguments with officials. In a video that is going viral on social media platforms, Congress leader Satyanarayana Chowdary is seen arguing with an official as to how can the authorities sitting in Hyderabad finalise the list. He is also seen saying, “We are ashamed to call ourselves Congress party workers. There has to be transparency.”
Likewise, at Jaidupally village in Vikarabad constituency, women argued with officials and Congress leaders over the promises made to the people. They questioned about the Rs 2,500 monthly financial assistance to women, partial implementation of Rs 500 gas cylinder distribution scheme and failure to implement crop loan waiver scheme effectively.
Gram sabhas were launched on January 21 and concluded on Friday to identify beneficiaries for four schemes — Rythu Bharosa, Indiramma Atmeeya Bharosa, ration cards and Indiramma Indlu.
However, at majority of the gram sabhas, officials and Congress leaders faced tough time with residents questioning about the lack of transparency in selection of beneficiaries.
