Design of the modern bus shelter to come up in Warnagal city limits soon.
Warangal: The second largest city in the State, Warangal will soon get a total of 121 modern/smart bus shelters similar to Hyderabad under ‘Smart City Mission’ programme.
According to the official sources, the design of the bus shelters had been completed by a private company. This agency is going to construct these bus shelters under the Design, build, finance, operate transfer (DBFOT) basis as a Public Private Partnership project (PPP). The agency designs, builds and operates on behalf of the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) before transferring operations and maintenance back to the client after a stipulated period. Though the GWMC issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for setting 162 bus shelters under the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) limits, it has now decided to set up 121 shelters, according to the sources.

The proposed bus shelters would be built on the lines of the bus shelters that have come up in Hyderabad. “These modern shelters will be equipped with digital screens about routes, bus numbers, timings, QR scanning codes, surveillance cameras, mobile charging points, garbage bins, and announcement of the buses and other facilities,” said Mayor Gundu Sudharani. It is said that some of them will also have toilet facilities for the convenience of the passengers. The officials of the Town Planning department have already identified the sites for the construction of the modern bus shelters.
However, the reconstruction of new bus station in place of the Hanamkonda bus station with an estimated cost of Rs 80 crore under the Smart City Mission is yet to be taken up. The proposed bus station will have shopping area, movie screens and hotels in the upper portion of the bus station complex and there are should be at least 60 platforms.
