Hyderabad: Green India Challenge initiative by Rajya Sabha MP J Santhosh Kumar which garnered global attention is now eyeing a world record. This time, the aim is to plant one million saplings in an hour. The novel idea was termed as ‘Million Plantation in One Hour’.

This special drive would be launched on the occasion of 58th birthday of TRS MLA Jogu Ramanna on July 4, in Adilabad. The founder of the Green India Challenge, MP J Santhosh Kumar would attend the programme as Chief Guest.

Under this drive, the team is set to break the old record of planting 3, 03,000 saplings in Turkey in 2019 and found space in Guinness Book World Records.

The preparations are in place in Adilabad district. In Bela mandal, 2 lakh plants have been arranged. In the urban region of the district, 1,80,000 plantations will be done in more than 45,000 houses and 1,20,000 saplings would be planted on either side of roads.

Another 5,00,000 saplings will be planted in 200 acres of degenerated forest area similar to Miyawaki model and more than 25,000 saplings would be planted by TRS cadre and people of the district.

Commenting on the mass plantation drive, Santosh Kumar said “Mother Nature is where our survival is completely dependent upon. Covid has caused immense damage to the environment and we learnt how important it is to conserve our natural resources in the last two years. I urge everyone to be a part of the Green India Challenge. Join hands by planting three saplings and nominating three others to take this forward.”
