Gurugram police arrest man for alleged abduction, extortion near Rajiv Chowk

Gurugram police arrested a man for allegedly abducting and extorting a victim near Rajiv Chowk, forcing him into a car, obtaining his ATM PIN and withdrawing Rs 10,000. Police recovered the Swift car and are searching for the other accused

Gurugram: Days after a man complained that four youths abducted him near Rajiv Chowk, forcibly obtained his ATM PIN, and withdrew Rs 10,000 from his bank account, Gurugram police said on Saturday they arrested an accused in the extortion case. Police said they recovered the Swift car allegedly used in the crime from the accused’s possession.

They said a search for the other accused involved in the case is underway. According to police, on September 1, a man lodged a complaint alleging that on August 31, four youths forcibly made him sit in a Swift car near Rajiv Chowk, assaulted him and withdrew Rs 10,000 from his bank account after obtaining his ATM PIN. The accused later abandoned him at a deserted location and fled, police said.

Based on the complaint, Sadar Police Station registered a case. A police team arrested one accused, identified as Nikhil, from Jorababas village in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district, near Hero Honda Chowk in Gurugram.

“During interrogation, it was revealed that the car used in the crime had been rented for driving. The accused, along with his associates, committed the offence out of greed for money. Further investigation is underway,” a Gurugram police spokesperson said.
