Nalgonda: Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy has called for a review of the benefits provided to farmers under the Rythu Bharosa scheme and the bonus for fine rice varieties. He suggested that the government consider continuing only one of the two schemes based on which one offers greater advantage to farmers.
Addressing the media on Friday, he said the government must assess both schemes carefully and decide which delivers better outcomes for the farming community. He noted that the combined implementation of the bonus for fine rice and the Rythu Bharosa scheme was placing a significant financial burden on the State government.
“There is growing dissatisfaction among farmers over delays in the complete disbursement of Rythu Bharosa benefits,” Sukender Reddy said.
He said that in other States, governments were not procuring locally harvested stocks. As a result, farmers from neighbouring States were bringing their produce to Telangana to sell at higher prices, a trend he said was affecting local farmers adversely.
Referring to procurement issues, he said Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had sought support from the Central government. However, no assistance has been extended so far. He criticised opposition parties for politicising the issue, urging them to refrain from attempts to gain mileage by provoking public sentiment.
On the Kaleshwaram project issue and the PC Ghose Commission report, he stated that the High Court had not given a clean chit to anyone.
