GWMC officials with a banner displaying the phone numbers of the staff of the GWMC
Warangal Urban: With the spike in the COVID positive cases in the second wave in the district as well as under the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) limits, the GWMC authorities are taking all steps to check the spread of the Coronavirus. As a part of this, the authorities have pressed 15 auto-mounted spraying machines and 15 tractor-mounted spraying machines into use.
While the tractor-mounted sprayers are used to spray the sodium hypochlorite on the main roads (wide ones), the auto-mounted sprayers are used to spray the liquid in the lanes and bylanes (narrow roads). “On the other hand, we have asked 170 staff of the sanitation wing to spray the sodium hypochlorite across the city. The sodium hypochlorite is being sprayed under all the 66 divisions,” said GWMC in-charge commissioner Satyanarayana. It may be recalled here that the officials had also used in the drone sprayers last year to spray the sodium hypochlorite.
According to the sources, most of the colonies in the city are registering the COVID-19 cases during the second wave. It may be mentioned here that the Warangal Urban district having Warangal city as its district headquarters recorded 128 COVID-19 positive cases on May 14.
Meanwhile, the district recorded its highest 242 cases on May 10. The officials said that they were taking steps to cremate/bury the bodies of the people who died of the virus under the GWMC limits.
“Since last year, we have burned a total of 234 bodies of patients infected with the virus,” said an official adding that they had pressed two vehicles (Vaikunta Ratham) into service of shifting the bodies. The officials have set up banners displaying the phone numbers of the staff of the GWMC and asked the people to call at those numbers, if they want to carry the bodies of the COVID-19 patients to the crematoriums.
