Hyderabad: The Habeeb Nagar police on Saturday arrested a painter in connection with a house-breaking and theft case and recovered Rs 90,000 cash from him.
According to police, the suspect, Md Sarfaraz (20), had earlier worked at the MAK Aqua Water Plant for about three years and was familiar with his office and the cash kept there.
On August 28, the owner of the plant, Mohd Rayees Khan, kept Rs 95,000 in a table drawer at his office, locked the premises, and left. As he was attending a family function, he did not open the office for the next two days.
On the morning of August 31, he found the office door, table drawer, and wooden almirah locks broken and the cash missing. A case was registered following a complaint made at the Habeeb Nagar police station.
During the investigation, police examined CCTV footage and made local enquiries. On confirming the role of Sarfaraz, the police traced and apprehended him at Nampally on Friday.
The police said he admitted to the offence and disclosed that he had used an angle grinder to break open the locks. The police recovered Rs 90,000 from his possession.
The suspect was arrested and produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
