Hyderabad: Amid soaring temperatures in the State, half-day schools are likely to commence in the second week of March, even as the parents are pitching for an early start to help alleviate the sweltering heat.

This year, the temperatures are anticipated to reach 40 degrees Celsius in several locations in districts and hover between 36 degrees Celsius and 38 degrees Celsius in Hyderabad. Given the above the normal temperatures expected in the month of March itself, parents are batting for early start of the half-day schools.

According to official sources, the half-day schools may commence from March 15. The State government has already announced half-day schools for Urdu medium schools, Urdu medium sections of parallel medium schools and Urdu medium sections of DIETs during Ramzan month from March 2. The parents wanted the government to extend the same to other schools as well.

If announced, the schools will have classes from 8 am to 12.30 pm. Mid-day meals in the government and local body schools will be served after the class work.
