Khammam: An initiative by Zilla Parishad Chairman L Kamalraj has brightened up the lives of migrant labourers living at Endapalligutta hamlet in Siripuram gram panchayat of Madhira Assembly constituency in the district.
A group of migrant workers from Odisha settled in the hamlet where they built small huts nearly 15 years ago. Since then, they have not had electricity connections to their houses and despite many appeals for power connections earlier, successive governments in undivided Andhra Pradesh ignored their pleas.
The issue was taken to the notice of Kamalraj by the TRS leader and local Rythu Bandhu Samithi convener Ch Venu and sarpanch K Pedda Buchaiah. The ZP Chairman in turn took the matter to the notice of NPDCL officials.
The officials recently installed an electric transformer and erected c poles to provide the houses electricity connections to the houses along with street lighting. The ZP Chairman, Kamalraj inaugurated the street lights on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, he said the TRS government ensures development of remotest hamlets in the State. The villages have been witnessing visible development because of Palle Pragathi and regular release of funds to gram panchayats.
The labourers thanked the TRS government and the ZP Chairman for fulfilling long pending demand by providing electricity connection to the hamlet. MPP member Lalitha, market committee chairman, Ch Nageswar Rao and ATMA committee chairman R Koteswar Rao were present.
