Hyderabad: RS Hangargekar swung the match away from Hyderabad with an all-round show as Maharashtra cruised to a 34-run victory in the semifinals of the under-19 Vinoo Mankad one-day tournament in Narendra Modi Ground B at Ahmedabad on Saturday.

In the morning, Hyderabad were on top as Maharashtra were reduced to 83 for 7 in 28.5 overs as left-arm spinner M Shashank (9.5-4-9-4) spun a web around their batsmen. But Hangargekar, coming in at the fall of seventh wicket, dug in deep before swinging the match away from Hyderabad with a blistering 62-ball 93 (6×4, 7×6). Thanks to Hangargekar, Maharashtra posted a challenging 197 for 9 in 49.5 overs.

Hangargekar then returned and with his first delivery removed the in-form opener Krithik Reddy. Skipper Tilak Varma (26) and Aman Rao ( 61 off 114 balls, 9×4) repaired the early damage with a 63-run stand. But Hyderabad suffered a big blow when Varma was run out in a mix-up with Aman Rao. Getting that crucial breakthrough, Maharashtra came back strongly and Hyderabad’s challenge faded away before being all out for 163 in 46.4 overs. Hangargekar also dismissed Aman Rao to cap a fine day as he finished with three wickets.

Brief scores: Maharashtra 197/9 in 49.5 overs (RS Hangargekar 93, B Punnaiah 2/51, M Shashank 4/9, Tilak Varma 2/27) bt Hyderabad 163 in 46.4 overs (Aman Rao 61, Hangargekar 3/35, NN Thakur 3/25).
