Adilabad: A 21-year-old woman ended her life by consuming poison due to the alleged harassment by her sister-in-law at Harkapur village in Indervelli mandal on Sunday.
Indervelli Sub-Inspector N Nagnath said the deceased Rathod Sridevi, sister of Aravind was B Sc first year student from Harkapur.
Sridevi took the extreme drastic step as she was depressed following constant harassment by her sister-in-law Manjula over her being single. She committed suicide when her brother was not present. She was disheartened when she was abused and tormented by Manjula over one or the issue. She was staying with her brother after losing her parents to some disease in the past.
Aravind, who returned from Dubai and his mother-in-law asked Manjula not to harass Sridevi. Manjula went to her mother’s home on Friday. She continued to target the young girl and mentally tortured her by speaking to her over phone too, stating she was a financial burden on their family. Manjula has also been accused of forcing Sridevei to end her life.
Based on a complaint filed by Aravind, a case was registered against Manjula under the Section 302 (Abetment to Suicide) of Indian Penal Code. Investigations got underway.
