Harish Rao asks Rahul Gandhi to seek resignations of defected BRS MLAs

BRSLP deputy leader T Harish Rao challenged Rahul Gandhi to act on his “Samvidhan Bachao” call by demanding resignations of BRS MLAs who defected to Congress. He questioned the Congress’s conduct in Telangana following Danam Nagender’s disqualification.

Hyderabad: BRSLP deputy leader T Harish Rao said the Supreme Court’s decision upholding Danam Nagender’s disqualification was a slap in the face to the Congress’s duplicity on saving the Constitution. He challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to act on his repeated “Samvidhan Bachao” call, ask every BRS MLA who defected to the Congress to resign and seek a fresh mandate.

“If Rahul Gandhi ji genuinely believes in the Constitution, he must personally demand that every other MLA who defected to the Congress resign immediately and seek a fresh mandate from the people,” he said, stating that the real test had begun for the Congress.

Harish Rao said Rahul Gandhi cannot preach constitutional morality in Delhi and remain silent over the conduct of his party in Telangana, which raises serious questions about those very principles. “Is Samvidhan Bachao a constitutional commitment or merely a political slogan?” he asked, adding that Rahul Gandhi must act if he truly believed in his own words and make the defected MLAs resign and face the people.

“Anything less will expose the glaring gap between Rahul Gandhi’s constitutional rhetoric and Congress’s political practice in Telangana,” he said.
