Hyderabad: Senior BRS legislator and former Minister T Harish Rao raised strong objection to the recent hike in RTC fares during the Bathukamma and Dasara festivals, terming it an unfair burden on passengers. He pointed out that the inflated fares, without an increase in the number of buses, prevented the people of Telangana from enjoying the festival season.

“A passenger traveling from Jubilee Bus Station to Siddipet, with Rs 140, now has to shell out Rs 200 for the return journey,” he posted on X. Similarly, the fare for a super luxury bus from Hanmakonda to Hyderabad, which usually costs Rs 300 was hiked to Rs 420 during the festival period.

He condemned the government’s decision, stating that instead of facilitating travel during festive season, these fare hikes were nothing but taking advantage of the people’s need to visit their hometowns, dampening the spirit of the festivals. He called for an immediate rollback of the fare hike to ensure affordable travel for all citizens.
