Harish Rao pays tribute to Chakali Ilamma, unveils statue in Gajwel

Siddipet: Former minister T Harish Rao said Chakali Ilamma, who fought against landlords, never received due recognition when Telangana remained undivided.

Speaking after unveiling Chakali Ilamma’s statue in Gajwel on the occasion of her birth anniversary, Harish Rao said the first Chief Minister of Telangana, K Chandrashekhar Rao, had decided to officially celebrate her birthday as a tribute to her.

Following Chandrashekhar Rao’s decision, her birthday is now being celebrated by the government and officials, he said.

Recalling the heroic fight she waged against landlords, Rao said the former Chief Minister had paid tribute to her by constructing Chakali Ilamma Bhavan in Gajwel at a cost of Rs 1 crore.

Stating that Chandrashekhar Rao had developed Gajwel town on all fronts, he said the present government could not even repair potholes on the roads. He also said the Congress government had failed to make the 100-bed MCH hospital operational, despite its construction being completed when the BRS was in power.

Since the BRS government had built Mallanna Sagar and other reservoirs as part of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) in Siddipet, the former minister said the reservoirs could fill all the lakes, enabling people to immerse Bathukamma and Ganesh idols today.

Rao called upon people to learn from Ilamma’s fighting spirit and question those who, he alleged, would do injustice to them.

The former minister also participated in Ilamma’s birthday celebrations at multiple places and unveiled her statues at different locations across the Siddipet constituency.
