Hyderabad: Raising deep concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Telangana, former Minister T Harish Rao said even the police were not safe under the Congress government. He condemned the recent killing of a police constable at the hands of a rowdysheeter.

Speaking after offering prayers at the Goddess Bhagyalakshmi temple near Charminar on the occasion of Diwali on Monday, Harish Rao said Hyderabad had always been a symbol of communal harmony, with Hindus and Muslims respecting each other’s faiths. He prayed for peace, prosperity, and progress for the people of Telangana.

“It is unfortunate that even the police, who protect citizens, are left defenceless. Despite being the Home Minister, the Chief Minister has failed to maintain law and order,” he said. He demanded that the government extend full support and provide a government job to a family member of the deceased constable.

Harish Rao also questioned the Congress government over allegations involving Minister Konda Surekha’s family and the growing gun culture in the State. He said despite allegations made by the Minister’s daughter, the police did not initiate any action. He reiterated his demand for a judicial probe into the allegations and accountability from the Chief Minister.

“While the previous BRS government made Telangana a hub for investment, this Congress government has turned it into a State of fear and factionalism,” he said.
