Hyderabad: BRS Legislature Party (BRSLP) deputy leader T Harish Rao demanded Rs 1 crore ex-gratia for the families of two workers killed in a gas leak at Saraca chemical industry in the Gaddapotharam industrial area of Jinnaram mandal in Sangareddy district on Friday. Condoling the deaths, he urged the government to ensure better medical treatment for the injured and take strict action against those responsible.
Harish Rao accused the Congress government of neglecting industrial safety despite repeated accidents. Referring to the earlier Sigachi incident and the latest accident at Saraca, he questioned whether the government had learnt any lessons from past tragedies.
He stated that inadequate enforcement of safety standards and a lack of official supervision were putting workers’ lives at risk. He also questioned the government’s response to industrial accidents, accusing it of focusing on appearances and posing for cameras after incidents rather than ensuring workers’ safety.
Demanding a comprehensive inquiry into the Saraca accident, the senior BRS leader called for stringent action against the company management if found responsible. He urged the government to strengthen safety measures across industries to prevent such incidents from recurring.
He also demanded that the government fulfil its promise of Rs 1 crore compensation to each of the 54 families that lost their breadwinners in the Sigachi incident. He asserted that the Chief Minister should ensure the promised relief reaches them without further delay.
