Harish Rao slams Congress over continuing urea shortage in Telangana
Senior BRS leader T Harish Rao criticised the Congress government for failing to resolve the urea shortage that troubled farmers during Kharif and has now continued into Rabi. He said poor planning had forced farmers to endure long queues and severe hardship
Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader and former Minister T Harish Rao on Saturday said farmers in the State were being pushed to the edge by the ill-advised policies of the Congress government, as the acute urea shortage that tormented them throughout the Kharif season had continued unabated into the Rabi season as well.
“Revanth Reddy garu… These are the very hardships farmers are enduring to get urea in Dharmaraopet village of Khanapur mandal in Narsampet constituency, the same area you visited just yesterday,” Harish Rao said.
Slamming the Chief Minister for being incapable of ensuring urea supply to farmers, he accused him of making hollow claims about development while wasting public money on lavish victory celebrations with no tangible work on the ground. “While you beat empty drums and show heaven in the palm by talking about Global Summits and Vision 2047, first focus on supplying urea to our farmers,” he said.
Harish Rao alleged that by throwing agricultural planning to the winds, the Congress government had forced farmers, women and the elderly to stand in long queues for hours just to get urea. “Your evil rule has become a curse for the farmers of Telangana. Because of your anti-farmer policies, our farmers are seeing hell,” he charged.
He said it was shameful that the government had learnt nothing from the bitter experiences and urea crisis of the previous season. “If the situation is this bad right at the start of the Rabi season, it would be difficult to think how terrible it will become in the days ahead,” he warned.
The BRS leader demanded that the government immediately make all necessary arrangements to ensure there is no shortage of urea and that farmers do not face further hardship.
