Hyderabad: Health Minister, T Harish Rao on Sunday urged government doctors to up their game in providing humane and quality healthcare services at government hospitals.

Participating in World Glaucoma Week celebrations at Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital on Sunday, he noted the dwindling patient walk-ins and bed occupancy ratio, especially in government eye care facilities, when compared to private hospitals.

“Referrals, walk-ins and bed occupancy ratio of patients at SD Eye Hospital have dropped in the last few years. However, private eye care facilities are filled to the capacity. We need to ask ourselves why this has happened. From the government, we will provide all possible medical infrastructure but doctors and healthcare workers must realise that they too have to up their game,” he said.

Harish Rao assured that he will review the entire functioning of SD Eye Hospital to identify the missing links that are needed to be addressed. “We will identify where we are going wrong and plug the loopholes. The much needed upgrade of medical infrastructure will also be taken up in the coming months,” he assured.

In partnership with ENTOD Pharmaceuticals, the SD Eye Hospital is conducting glaucoma awareness week and as part of this initiative, a special walk comprising of nearly 600 participants was organised on Sunday. Free glaucoma check-up camp to screen patients is also being organised.
