Hyderabad: Looking for something beyond the staple samosa, kachori or Osmania biscuit?  Something that is not regular but is sure to satiate your taste buds? Try out Dabeli then.

Sindhi Colony in Secunderabad with its cosmopolitan flair is home to many street food stalls offering delicious snacks from different parts of the country. And Dabeli is one such snack for which people from different parts of the city line up here.

This north Indian special snack is offered at a few places in the city and Sindhi Colony street food joints are one of the favoured destination for Dabeli lovers.

Dabeli, Kutchi Dabeli or Double Roti Gujarati is a popular snack originating in the Kutch or Kachchh region of Gujarat. It is a sweet snack made by mixing boiled potatoes with a special Dabeli masala, which is then put in a ladi pav (burger bun), and served with chutneys made from tamarind, date, garlic, red chilies and other ingredients. It is garnished with pomegranate and roasted peanuts.

Easy on pocket, a serving of Dabeli here costs Rs 35 and is served hot with some ‘sev’ sprinkled over it.

Amir has been running Bombay chat bandi here for the last 17 years. “My whole family shifted to Hyderabad from Gujarat when I was a kid. After coming here, my family members started our own Dabeli bandi here at a time when not many were aware about the snack,” he says.

Almost 17 years ago, their chat bandi started serving Dabeli at Rs 5 and over a period of time, the price went up to Rs 25. Driven by various factors that include prices of vegetables and other material and also given the increasing demand, the price was revised to Rs 35. “Apart from Dabeli, we also have huge demand for Vada Pav,” says Amir, who also takes party orders.

It’s not just Dabeli, Sindhi Colony lane is lined up with other street food joints that offer a variety of snacks. Take some time to check out the place!
