Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday claimed that health services have deteriorated, people are weighed down by price rise and corruption under the BJP government that has destroyed public welfare facilities.
Addressing a gathering of farmers and youths at the party headquarters here, Yadav said people’s problems would only be resolved after the BJP government is voted out of power, he said. “Health services have become completely dysfunctional under the BJP government. Farmers are not being heard anywhere. The public is troubled and inflation and corruption have broken its back,” he said.
Yadav referred to the case of a youth from Shikohabad, Ankit Rathore, whose hand allegedly had to be amputated after a doctor at the Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences administered a wrong injection. The SP chief said he had also spoken to the administration of the Lohia hospital in connection with the incident and expressed grief and concern over it.
“Patients are looted in the name of treatment and there is nobody to check,” Yadav alleged. He also claimed that there had been instances of patients receiving wrong medicines and suffering serious complications, and lapses in the handling of bodies brought for post-mortem.
Yadav said the Samajwadi Party government had introduced the 108 ambulance service to ensure timely treatment for accident victims and the 102 ambulance service for newborns and pregnant women. He also cited the launch of the UP Dial 100 police response system during his government, saying these initiatives were intended to provide public-oriented services and ensure people’s welfare.
“The BJP government has ruined all these public welfare facilities,” he alleged. Yadav said the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections were approaching and claimed there was considerable enthusiasm among people to remove the BJP government.
“The PDA (backward, dalits and minorities) is determined at the booth level to form a Samajwadi Party government and get rid of BJP’s rule,” he said, referring to the party’s social coalition of backward classes, Dalits and minorities.
