Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) council meeting on Saturday turned into a showdown between Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and Bharatiya JanataParty (BJP) corporators. Adjourned twice, the council meeting progressed and ended with a heated session, with discussions revolving around sanitation, road widening, road maintenance and the development of graveyards.
When TRS corporator Manne Kavitha Reddy mentioned that GHMC has bagged an award in Swachh Survekshan and lauded the State government’s initiatives, BJP corporator V Radha Dheeraj Reddy sought to interrupt and was supported by other members of her party. Amid sloganeereing, the Mayor adjourned the house twice. However, the corporators from all political parties charged the officials of being apathetic towards the grievances.
While MLC Syed Amin Jafri from All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen said the contractors maintaining the city main roads should be held accountable for bad roads, Baba Fasiuddin from TRS said the road widening works in his division should be paced up. Uppal corporator M Rajitha from Congress also complained about the condition of main roads in her ward.
Mayor G Vijaya Laxmi informed the council of a series of developmental activities taken up by the State government including Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP), Strategic Nala Development Plan (SNDP) and Telangana Ku Haritha Haram (THH). Malkajgiri MP A Revanth Reddy said that a memorial should be built for Konijeti Rosaiah, former Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh.
