Heavy rainfall disrupts Hyderabad traffic, floods roads and affects Navaratri, Bathukamma festivities
Heavy downpours in Hyderabad on Friday caused traffic jams, waterlogged roads, and public transport delays. IT corridors, GHMC suburbs, and major roads were severely affected. Daily life, including Navaratri and Bathukamma festivities, saw lower turnout and disruptions.
Hyderabad: Heavy downpour caused traffic jams and disrupted daily life in Hyderabad from the early hours of Friday.
Commuters faced long delays as waterlogged roads slowed vehicular movement in several areas. Many residents reported difficulty reaching workplaces due to the persistent rainfall.
Heavy downpour caused severe flooding and traffic congestion across the city, particularly in IT corridors and GHMC suburbs, since early Friday morning.
Hydraa, GHMC, and HMWSSB authorities deployed their teams to clear blocked drains and manage traffic at major intersections.
Major stretches, including BHEL to Nizampet, Miyapur to Kukatpally, SR Nagar to Lakdikapul, Abids to Chaderghat, Nalgonda X Roads to Dilsukhnagar, LB Nagar to Hayathnagar, Mehdipatnam to Aramgarh, Mehdipatnam to Gachibowli, Lingampet up to Patancheru, Begumpet to Secunderabad railway station, Ameerpet to Yousufguda, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Madhapur, Gachibowli, Raidurg, Manikonda, and ORR, experienced heavy traffic jams during peak hours between 8 am and 11 am.
Office-goers and private employees were stranded at bus stops as public transport was delayed due to the heavy rains and flooded roads.
Metro Rail stations witnessed large crowds, with concourse areas packed with general commuters and office-goers. Many commuters parked their vehicles at the metro station parking areas and opted to travel by metro rail to avoid the traffic jams in the IT Corridor.
The heavy downpour significantly impacted normal daily life. Shops selling milk and milk products, vegetables, and other essential commodities shut down. Street vendors were absent from residential colonies as they were unable to sell vegetables, fruits, and other daily needs amidst the rains and inundations.
On Friday, the ongoing Navaratri celebrations which entered fifth day, had comparatively depleted turnout of devotees at temples across the city .
Bathukamma celebrations were also dampened, with key flower markets in the city receiving a poor response. The heavy rains spoiled the festive atmosphere.
