Heavy rains lash Hyderabad; More showers in store till August 9

Heavy rains hit the western parts of Hyderabad on Tuesday, with Serilingampally recording the city’s highest rainfall at 30.5 mm. While early rains were localized, by evening, showers extended across most city suburbs. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain across Telangana.

Hyderabad: Heavy rains lashed the western parts of Hyderabad on Tuesday afternoon even as other parts of the city remained under a blanket of clouds throughout the day. By late evening, spells of rain covered most other parts and suburbs as well.

As of 6 pm on Tuesday, Serilingampally recorded the highest rainfall of the day in the city with 30.5 mm while adjoining Chandanagar received 28 mm of rainfall. The BHEL factory areas in Ramachandrapuram recorded 17 mm of rainfall while Patancheru logged 12.5 mm.

For the next four days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a heavy rainfall alert with a yellow warning across the state including Hyderabad. The forecast also indicated thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning and sustained winds expected to remain active in several districts till the weekend.

In the five-day forecast, the Met department indicated heavy rainfall events as being likely with a rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm. For Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Rangareddy and Sangareddy districts, the heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Wednesday.

The districts where a similar heavy rainfall warning has been given until August 9 include Medak, Kamareddy, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Jogulamba Gadwal, Yadadri Bhongir, Vikarabad, Mahabubnagar, Narayanpet, Khammam, Nagarkurnool and Narayanpet.
