Heavy rains leave Hyderabad areas without power on Vinayaka Chaturthi, disrupting celebrations

Incessant rains since Tuesday night left parts of Hyderabad, including BHEL colonies, without electricity on Vinayaka Chaturthi. Residents struggled to carry out festive rituals, while the electricity department faced criticism for failing to maintain uninterrupted power during the celebrations.

Hyderabad: The incessant rains since Tuesday night left several areas in the city without power supply.

The failure of the electricity department to ensure power supply on Vinayaka Chaturthi day resulted in households struggling to manage the festive celebrations.

The overnight rains had colonies of BHEL and surrounding areas plunged into darkness on an overcast Wednesday.

“Our festival apparently doesn’t matter much for the power department. There is no power for last three hours and my puja room is in darkness,” lamented Suman, a resident of MIG colony.
