Telangana
The Telangana government released the second instalment of Rs 500 crore for implementation of its ambitious ‘Telangana Dalit Bandhu’ scheme on pilot basis in Huzurabad Assembly constituency. A week after launch of the welfare scheme by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao at a public meeting in the constituency, the State government issued orders releasing the funds. Rao has directed the officials to release Rs 2,000 crore for the pilot project in the constituency. Under ‘Dalit Bandhu’ scheme, every Dalit family will get Rs 10 lakh as grant and will be free to choose their profession, self-employment or businesses for utilising the funds.
Andhra Pradesh
The Andhra Pradesh School Education Regulatory and Monitoring Commission has fixed the fee structure for schools and intermediate colleges in the state for three academic years beginning 2021-22. Commission Chairman Justice (Retd.) R Kanta Rao said the maximum annual tuition fee for schools in gram panchayats has been fixed at Rs 10,000 for primary classes and Rs 12,000 for higher classes.
In municipalities, it is Rs 11,000 and Rs 15,000 and in municipal corporations Rs 12,000 and Rs 18,000 respectively, he said. Kanta Rao said the Commission would also monitor the education quality standard, salaries being paid to teachers, facilities available and related things.
Jammu and Kashmir
Colourful kites of different shapes and sizes dotted the skyline of Jammu and Samba in Jammu and Kashmir as scores of people participated in kite festivals in the two districts. The second edition of the Jammu Kite Festival was organised by the Directorate of Tourism in collaboration with the J&K Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC) at the Tawi River Front Park. The festival also marked the celebration of ‘Azadi ka Amrut Mahostav’ to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence, he said. Kumar said the kite festival would be made a regular feature in the coming years and would be organised on a grander scale to help attract tourists from all parts of India.
Chandigarh
Chandigarh-Manali National Highway (NH-3) which was blocked due to a landslide between Aut and Pandoh in Mandi district, was opened for commuters after around 32 hours on Saturday. Earlier several vehicles were stranded and traffic was diverted to the Kataula route due to the landslide. The District administration had deployed the forest and NHAI team at the spot. A landslide near Pandoh in Mandi District on Thursday had led to the NH-3 being blocked. It was closed for restoration.The District administration has deployed the forest and NHAI team at the spot. Assam
The overall flood situation in Assam deteriorated on Saturday as the rising Brahmaputra river and its tributaries inundated vast tracts in 15 districts and affected 2,25,501 people of the state, according to the daily bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Agency (ASDMA). There have been, however, no loss of human or animal life so far, the bulletin said. The current wave of flood trigerred by continuous heavy rainfall in the catchment areas has hit Baksa, Barpeta, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Sivasagar, Sonitpur and Tinsukia districts and affected 512 villages under 34 revenue circles in them, it said.
