Hyderabad: American tech giant Amazon was started by Jeff Bezos out of the garage of his house in 1994 as an online marketplace to sell books. It was initially incorporated with the name Cadabra, Inc. While all this information might not be new to you, here is how the company’s first job posting looked like.
On August 22, 1994 – just a month after its incorporation – Jeff Bezos posted a job opening in his company. The posting was looking for a Unix developer and was looking for someone with a BS, MS, or PhD in computer science or equivalent background. The posting also mentioned that the candidate must have experience designing and building large and complex (yet maintainable) systems. The candidate must be ‘extremely talented’ C/C++/Unix developers to help pioneer commerce on the Internet.
However, what has got people’s attention is a statement in the posting which mentions that the person should be able to do the designing in about ‘one-third the time that most competent people think possible’. Top-notch communication skills are also essential.
The compensation would include meaningful equity ownership – which has also people wondering who actually got the job and how much they would be worth in today’s day and age.
