Hyderabad: Megastar Chiranjeevi has come out in support of composer S Thaman who recently made headlines with his emotional speech about Tollywood.

Speaking at the success meet of Balakrishna’s Daaku Maharaaj on Friday, the composer poured out his anguish over the ongoing trend in Tollywood.

“Fan wars, individual grudges against actors and negative trolls have been killing the theatrical life of Tollywood, which has been bringing laurels from all over the world,” he rued.

Reacting to Thaman’s speech, megastar Chiranjeevi said he has never seen the fun-filled composer become emotional about the ongoing cancel culture.

“Be it films, cricket or any other social issue, people must think about the impact that will be created by the endless social media trolls on the receiver. And as people say words are free. Words can inspire. And Words can destroy. If we are positive our lives will be filled with positivity. Choose what you wish to do,” Chiranjeevi wrote on X.

The composer, known for his chartbusters like Pushpa 2, Guntur Karam, and Game Changer, said while many directors, producers and technicians from other film industries were waiting for a chance to work in Tollywood, our own people were ruining it with unwanted negativity.

Thaman said he felt very shameful and sorry for producers who put their sweat and blood into cinema which is being killed by the cancel culture of some audience. “A lot of hard work goes into making a film and fans of every hero should respect it,” he said.

Without naming any film, he urged fans to stop spreading unnecessary negativity on good cinema and help the industry flourish.

The outburst led the netizens to speculate that this speech was about Game Changer directed by Shankar and starring Ram Charan and Kiara Advani. Social media was quite hard on Game Changer with trolls and reviews asking people to say away for the “disastrous movie”. As a result, producer Dil Raju had to incur huge losses.

However, Thaman thanked Chiranjeevi for his support and added: “As a fellow human, I couldn’t control myself…. So spoke my heart out.”
