Hidalgo, Luiten and Meronk share lead at DP World India Championship
Angel Hidalgo, Joost Luiten and Adrian Meronk shared the clubhouse lead at the weather-affected DP World India Championship in Delhi. Om Prakash Chouhan remained the highest-placed Indian as players battled a congested schedule following first-day storms
Hyderabad: Angel Hidalgo, Joost Luiten and Adrian Meronk shared the clubhouse lead atop a congested leaderboard after the second day of the weather-affected DP World India Championship.
The tournament was still playing catch-up after nearly five hours were lost to storms on the opening day. However, conditions were perfect on Friday as some players faced 36 holes at the Delhi Golf Club.
Luiten played the most among the leaders, tackling 34 holes and carding rounds of 68-68 to reach eight under par. Meronk and Hidalgo each played 31 holes.
Meronk was five under par through four holes at the end of Thursday’s play but added just one more birdie to complete his first round before following it up with a 69. Hidalgo matched Luiten with rounds of 68-68.
Belgian Thomas Detry birdied three of his first six holes in the second round to join the leaders, one shot clear of English pair Todd Clements and Eddie Pepperell.
More than half the field was yet to complete the second round, while 12 players were yet to begin it.
The tournament is sponsored by global logistics leader DP World.
Eugenio Chacarra was also seven under par through five holes as he sought a result that could take him to the top of the Race to Dubai Rankings Delivered by DP World on Sunday.
Om Prakash Chouhan, who played on the DP World Tour in 2024 after topping the DP World PGTI Tour Order of Merit in 2023, remained the highest-placed Indian on the leaderboard. He had played just two holes in the second round, making par on both, after opening with a 68. He was provisionally tied for 17th place.
Two-time DP World Tour winner Anirban Lahiri (70-73) was assured of playing over the weekend. He was tied for 46th place, as was Saptak Talwar, who carded 71 in the first round and was level par through seven holes in the second.
All three clubhouse leaders were enjoying late-season momentum as the DP World Tour Play-Offs approached, with the trio able to look up the rankings rather than over their shoulders.
Poland’s Meronk recently won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. He held the outright lead on the second day after birdies on the 14th, 17th, first and eighth holes, but dropped his only shot of the week so far on the ninth.
