Hyderabad: Justice Juvvadi Sridevi of the Telangana High Court has directed education authorities and the Telangana State Dairy Development Cooperative Federation Limited to jointly inspect the premises proposed for relocation of the Government Girls Primary School, Seethaphalmandi-II, and submit reports on the feasibility of shifting the institution.
The direction came in a writ petition concerning the proposed relocation of the Government Girls Primary School functioning at Vijaya Dairy premises in Tarnaka, Hyderabad. During the hearing, the Government Pleader for School Education informed the Court that the District Educational Officer had initiated steps to shift the school to Government Primary School, Aryavatika, Lalapet, from the academic year 2026-27 in the interest of students and to ensure continuity of education.
It was further submitted that a request had been made to Vijaya Dairy to allot certain residential quarters at Lalapet for temporarily accommodating the school.
However, counsel appearing for Vijaya Dairy informed the Court that the identified quarters were not vacant and were either occupied, allotted to employees, or being utilised for official purposes, making them unsuitable for accommodating the school.
Counsel for the petitioners contended that the proposed alternative school was situated about 3.7 kilometres from the existing location and would violate the provisions of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, which require a primary school to be located within a walking distance of one kilometre from the neighbourhood.
Taking note of the rival submissions, Justice Juvvadi Sridevi directed the District Educational Officer and Vijaya Dairy authorities, along with counsel representing the parties, to jointly inspect the proposed premises on June 20 and assess their suitability for temporarily shifting the school.
The Court further directed that, if the identified quarters are found unsuitable, other vacant quarters within the Vijaya Dairy premises shall also be inspected for accommodating the school. The authorities were directed to submit their respective reports before the Court by June 22. The matter has been posted for further hearing on June 23.
