Hyderabad: The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has urged State Designated Agencies (SDAs) to intensify grassroots-level awareness campaigns promoting Behaviour-Based Energy Saving Practices (2BESP), by actively involving Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and group housing societies.

The Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TSREDCO) is the designated SDA for the State. RWAs play a vital role in encouraging energy-efficient habits and technologies among households.

During a recent stakeholder interaction on the impact of 5-star rated appliances, BEE secretary Milind Deore emphasised the need to adopt high-efficiency air conditioners, refrigerators, and ceiling fans to significantly reduce electricity consumption and lower consumer bills.

He also reiterated the Central Government’s advisory encouraging citizens to set air conditioners at 24°C or higher — an easy yet effective measure to conserve energy.

According to BEE estimates, the implementation of 2BESP initiatives could help save up to 22.5 billion kWh of electricity annually, resulting in substantial economic savings and environmental benefits, the agency said in a press release.
