Hyderabad: Following criticism over hike in bus tickets fares during Dasara festival, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) on Monday said that fares were revised only for ‘special buses’ and regular services remained unchanged.
During major festivals like Sankranti, Dasara, Ugadi and Vinayaka Chavithi, a large number of people from Hyderabad visit their hometowns and special services are operated by the RTC for the convenience of citizens. On the return journey, these buses go empty as there is no rush of passengers, authorities said.
Compared to the past, there has been an increase in the number of bus trips for festivals and almost all buses are empty on return journey. It is in this context that the fares of the special buses were being revised.
“RTC operated about 500 special buses every day to cope with the rush during the festive season. Only those 500 special buses will have fare revision. There will be no change in the fares of the remaining 8500 regular services,” RTC authorities said.
The RTC will install display boards at the front for special services to inform the passengers. Also, the staff will inform the passengers about the revised fares in special buses at the time of ticket issuance, they added.
