Hind Mazdoor Sangh leader wants mines in place of power plants

Profits of the SCCL should be utilized for growth of the people affected by mines, HMS State president Riaz Ahmed observed

Mancherial: Hind Mazdoor Sangh (HMS) State president Riaz Ahmed opined that five underground mines could be opened, creating employment opportunities by using the Rs 2,289 crore set aside by SCCL for expansion.

Riaz reasoned that the SCCL would not be able to make profits by venturing into thermal power by investing the funds. Instead of investing in power plants, the coal major should open underground mines and provide jobs to locals.

Profits of the SCCL should be utilized for growth of the people affected by mines, he observed, also asking the State government not to spoil the SCCL by encouraging it to expand its operations to other sectors.

He told the government to take steps to ensure the price for the coal mined by SCCL on par with the mineral imported from foreign countries.
