Hyderabad: December 9 will be remembered as a watershed moment forever since it was on this day that the then Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on behalf of the Centre announced that the process of forming the State of Telangana would be initiated, Telangana protagonists said on Thursday.

Following the announcement, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president K Chandrashekhar Rao had ended his fast.

The protagonists celebrated the occasion on Thursday by distributing sweets and offering special prayers at religious places. At Dargah Yousufain Sharifain in Nampally, Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali offered special prayers.

Extending greetings to the people on the occasion, Women and Child Welfare Minister Satyavathi Rathod said history was rewritten on December 9 since the TRS president forced the Centre to make an announcement with his ‘deeksha’.

Telangana followers took out rallies in different parts of the State to mark the occasion and programmes were also organised to explain to the people about sacrifices made in achieving separate statehood for Telangana.

The leaders also appealed to the people of Telangana to come together again for the overall development of the State.
