HMRL files police complaint over excavation near Secunderabad metro pillars

Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited has lodged a police complaint against a private agency over excavation near metro pillars C1192 and C1193 in Secunderabad. HMRL said there was no indication of structural damage but flagged safety concerns over unauthorised work.

Hyderabad: The Gopalapuram police have registered a case against a private agency following a formal complaint lodged by Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) Executive Engineer K Shyam Mohan.

A news report about the deep excavation being taken up near metro pillars numbered C1192 and C1193 at the ISKCON temple premises in Secunderabad was published in these columns on September 20.

According to the police complaint, the Managing Partner of the private agency, M/s Zreni Solution Ltd, B Ramana Reddy, allegedly undertook excavation work in the vicinity of the metro pillars without obtaining prior permission or clearance from HMRL.

The complaint states that the excavation was carried out before September 17, 2026, over an area of approximately 700 sq. ft. to a depth of about 1.8 metres, without giving prior intimation and without ensuring adequate safety and protective measures.

HMRL clarified in the complaint that the action was not based on any allegation of physical damage to Metro Pillars C1192 and C1193.

“The technical clarification presently available with HMRL does not indicate any adverse impact on the structural integrity of the main Metro pillars arising from the reported excavation,” the complaint said.

However, HMRL emphasised that carrying out unauthorised excavation is a serious concern regarding safety, control and protection, prompting a formal notice issued to the agency on September 19, 2026.

HMRL has requested the authorities to initiate appropriate action against those responsible and direct the agency to halt any further unpermitted work near the metro infrastructure.
