HMRL to upgrade 10 high-traffic Hyderabad Metro stations

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) has announced an upgrade plan for 10 high-traffic stations to address the peak-hour rush of passengers, parking inefficiencies and street-level maintenance issues.

On Monday, Additional Managing Director B Ajith Reddy conducted an extensive field inspection of the facilities in and around metro stations.

The senior HMRL official travelled on the metro from Begumpet Metro Station to Raidurg Metro Station and evaluated platform maintenance and management, concourse amenities and ground-level infrastructure.

Ajith Reddy also expressed dissatisfaction with the upkeep of the central medians between metro pillars and issued a firm warning to the agencies tasked with sanitation.

Directing officials to ensure there was no compromise on quality, he called for immediate corrective measures to restore cleanliness around station premises.

The senior HMRL official directed officials to focus on reorganising transit arrangements at major IT hubs, including the Raidurg skywalk and the high-density Mindspace junction, to ensure smooth commuter movement during office hours.

He also directed officials to chalk out plans to restructure street-level parking lots at Begumpet, Ameerpet and Raidurg for maximum space efficiency. He urged them to review retail spaces beneath stations to ensure safety standards and commuter convenience were not compromised.

The upcoming overhaul of 10 selected stations will serve as a pilot project before being rolled out across the wider network. HMRL, in a press release on Monday, said similar inspections will continue in the coming weeks to monitor compliance and track progress on passenger amenities.
