Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) is preparing to supply treated ‘Green Water’ for non-potable uses to reduce pressure on the city’s drinking water sources.
As part of this effort, the HMWSSB Managing Director, K Ashok Reddy, on Thursday visited Kokapet to examine the feasibility of setting up a Green Water filling station. He inspected the water-quality testing laboratory and reviewed testing procedures, standards and result-recording processes.
He directed HMWSSB and TGSPCB officials to coordinate regular quality tests in strict adherence to established standards. Test results should be uploaded online in real time and integrated for direct monitoring from HMWSSB headquarters, a press release said. Officials were asked to coordinate with the IT department to establish the required infrastructure and ensure records remained transparent and accessible.
The Managing Director also directed officials to prescribe filling limits based on tanker capacities and accurately record the volume supplied and other details for each tanker. A control system should prevent overfilling, while excess water should be redirected to the respective pond to avoid wastage. Officials were asked to prepare a technical plan.
Treated water should be promoted for construction, industrial requirements, road cleaning, dust control and maintaining parks and gardens. Water quality, supply volumes and safety standards at filling stations must be continuously monitored, the release said.
