Hyderabad: A Home Guard from the Cyberabad Police was critically injured when a government protocol car hit him at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Tuesday.
Police said the incident occurred when the home guard, J Ashok, was taking part in protocol rehearsals as part of the Vice President’s visit.
The government protocol car, which was passing by the route driven by Syed Ahmed, hit Ashok, who was on the road.
“The driver was driving and talking on the mobile phone. Though Ashok tried to stop the vehicle, the driver did not stop and hit him,” an official said, adding that the injured Ashok was immediately shifted to a private hospital in Jubilee Hills, where his condition was stated to be stable.
Eye witnesses who caught the driver said he was driving in an inebriated condition.
“We have collected his samples and sent for examination. Based on the outcome, further action will be taken,” police said, adding that the driver was arrested.
