Hospitals can’t administer vaccines in star hotels, clarifies Health Ministry

Additional Secretary, MOHFW, Dr Manohar Agnani said that as per Covid vaccination guidelines, vaccination can be only carried out in Government Vaccination Centre (GVC), Private Covid Vaccination Centre (PCVC) run by a private hospital.

Hyderabad: The Union Health Ministry has clarified that it is against the National Covid Vaccination Program for private hospitals to offer packages for vaccination in collaboration with star hotels, a practice that recently came to light when hotels in several cities including Hyderabad announced vaccine packages in their premises.

In a letter addressed to Chief Secretaries of all state governments on Saturday, Additional Secretary, MOHFW, Dr Manohar Agnani said that as per Covid vaccination guidelines, vaccination can be only carried out in Government Vaccination Centre (GVC), Private Covid Vaccination Centre (PCVC) run by a private hospital.

The Covid vaccination can also be carried out at a workplace Covid Vaccination Centre in government offices to be run by government hospitals and at private companies to be run by private hospitals.

The vaccination can also be carried out near Home Covid Vaccination Centre for elderly and differently abled persons to be organised at group housing societies, Residential Welfare Association (RWA) offices, community centres, Panchayat Bhawans, Schools, Colleges, old age homes etc on a temporary basis.

“Apart from this, there are no other avenues to carry out vaccination under the national Covid Vaccination Program, therefore vaccination carried out in star hotels is contrary to the guidelines and must be stopped immediately. Necessary legal and administrative actions should be initiated against such institutions. The States have been instructed to monitor and ensure that National Covid Vaccination Drive is carried out as per prescribed guidelines, “ he added.
