There seemed to be no end to the drinking water crisis, lack of proper facilities like roads and electricity in Chinna Beeravalli village of Bonakal Mandal, Khammam.
More than 40 per cent of all the hand pumps installed in the village ran dry due to the depletion of groundwater level. But all these turned into stories of the past as the State government stepped in to take the village on a path of development.
The rural development program that was brought in by the government transformed the appearance of the village. And now, there are no facilities lacking here. Panchayat representatives utilised the funds sanctioned to get over the issues and beautify the village, which is now covered with lush greenery and a pleasant atmosphere.
The earlier administration had removed gravel, spread over 3 acres of government land, resulting in a hollow pit. Now, the present administration has filled the pit and leveled it with an estimated cost of Rs 12 lakh. In this 3 acres of land, a Vaikuntha Dhamam, dumping yard, and rythu vedika, which will serve as a platform for farmers to sit and talk and exchange ideas and experiences, were built at a cost of over Rs 36 lakh.
A nursery was set up on 25 cents of land where 16,000 plants were grown as part of the Haritha Haram program. Fencing has been set up around this complex to protect it.
In addition, three cement concrete roads and three culverts were constructed with Rs. 10 lakh sanctioned by SBF funds. An amount of Rs 4 lakh granted by Zilla Parishad was used for the construction of roads. With this, one can say that major issues in the village were solved through the Palle Pragati program launched by the Telangana government to improve the quality of life in the rural areas.
“Our village went through drastic change under the Palle Pragati program. The village got the funds it needed. This paved the way for rural development. This was made possible by the allocation of special funds by the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to the village. Every rupee was used for rural development,” said Therabathini Shantayya, Sarpanch.
There is a water supply to every household in the village and a program was initiated to distribute plants to every household.
