Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police busted an interstate human trafficking racket and rescued 20 children who were illegally employed in a bangle manufacturing unit at Errakunta in Balapur here on Monday. The police also arrested five persons in connection with the case.
Officials said the parents of these children were induced saying their children would be given good jobs with a decent salary, but forced them into child labour in bangle units.
The arrested persons were Mohd Toufiq, Mohd Sarfaraz, Mohd Mujahid and Mohd Imtyaz, all natives of Bihar. According to the police, the suspects were all bangle traders running small bangle manufacturing factories at Errakunta, by taking houses for rent. For this, they exploited children from Bihar and forced them into child labour.
“They paid meagre amounts to the parents and brought 20 children to Hyderabad and were making them work in bangle manufacturing units here for long hours and in unhygenic conditions,” police said.
The suspects were produced before court and remanded in judicial custody while the children were handed over to the Child Welfare Department.
