Karimnagar: The issues of remerging the Husnabad assembly constituency in Karimnagar district has once again come into focus with a statement by local MLA and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar.
While participating in the swearing-in ceremony of Siddipet District Library chairman Lingamurthy in Siddipet on Friday, Prabhakar said the sentiments of local people would be fulfilled. There was a strong feeling among the local public that they were forcefully separated from Karimnagar and merged with Siddipet district, he claimed, stating some quarters were raising voice on the issues here and there. Nobody will stop merging Husnabad in Karimnagar district again when the time comes, he said, adding that the sentiments of the local people would be considered.
As part of the formation of new districts in 2016, Husnabad assembly constituency was merged into Siddipet district. Moreover, a few mandals of the segment were merged with different districts. While Husnabad municipality, Bejjenki, Koheda and Akkannapet mandals were merged in Siddipet, Bheemadevarapalli and Elkathurthi were merged in Hanamkonda leaving Chigurumamidi and Saidapur in Karimnagar.
Some people had registered their protest against this, with Prabhakar, who contested from Husnabad constituency in the 2023 elections, including the issue in his election manifesto. Campaigning widely that the constituency was merged with Siddipet against the sentiments of local people, he promised to fulfill the sentiments of the public by remerging the segment with Karimnagar if he was elected.
