Hyderabad: With the city experiencing incessant rains for the past three days, inflows into the Hussain Sagar have resulted in the water levels going up. On Saturday, the water body reached 513.41 meters at 7 am.

The officials concerned including those from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) have been maintaining a close vigil on levels at the water body located in the heart of the city. So far, the situation has not reached a point where an alert needed to be sounded.

The rain runoff from most parts of the city flows down into Hussain Sagar through a chain of nalas along with sewage water arriving through four major feeder nalas – Picket Nala, Banjara Nala, Kukatpally Nala, and Balkapur Nala.

Officials from the Hussain Sagar Lake Division are closely monitoring the water levels at the lake amid continuous rainfall.

Superintending Engineer, Hussain Sagar Lake Division (HSDL), B Srinivas Reddy told ‘Telangana Today’ that the close monitoring has been going on for the past 10 days.

“We have been monitoring the water levels of the Hussain Sagar and releasing surplus water. As of now, there is no need for panic on overflow at the lake. We are making efforts to keep all 18 vents of the lake clear, in view of the continuous rainfall,” he said.

The outflow of the lake is 792 cusecs, and the inflow is 1,181 cusecs, he said.

Although the GHMC has not issued official alerts, the residents in low-lying areas, including Domalguda, Ashok Nagar, Lower Tank Bund, Himayat Nagar, and Liberty, remain vigilant and are monitoring the lake’s situation through social media platforms.
