Ganesh idol immersion gained momentum at Hussain Sagar on Friday afternoon as hundreds of trucks and other vehicles carrying idols moved towards the lake. Processions accompanied by drums and Teenmaar dances drew thousands of devotees across Hyderabad’s main roads.

Hyderabad: The Ganesh idol immersion gained momentum late in the afternoon at Hussain Sagar as hundreds of trucks carrying idols made a beeline along the lakefront.

From Begum Bazar and MJ Market to the bustling stretches of Abids, the GHMC Head Office, the Secretariat and NTR Gardens, the city’s main corridors were packed bumper-to-bumper with flatbed lorries, massive tuskers, trucks and small goods vehicles waiting their turn towards Hussain Sagar.

Departing from standard designs, Ganesh idols in myriad forms and creative themes attracted thousands of devotees, who lined the streets. The transport vehicles were decorated with vibrant flowers and elaborate arrangements of fresh fruits.

Hundreds of idols were taken out in processions across Hyderabad in the afternoon, moving from temporary installations in residential colonies, shopping complexes and open grounds onto the city’s main roads. Traditional drums and Teenmaar dances accompanied the processions as celebrations spread through local neighbourhoods.

Youngsters in colour-coordinated outfits danced in front of decorated vehicles, with uniforms identifying their neighbourhood groups. Their performances attracted attention along the procession route.
