Hyderabad: 75-year-old loses Rs 1.09 lakh to cyber fraud via fake D-Mart offer
A 75-year-old Habsiguda resident lost Rs 1.09 lakh after clicking a fraudulent WhatsApp APK file linked to a fake Facebook D-Mart offer. Cybercrime police warn the public against opening suspicious files and sharing personal banking information online.

Hyderabad: A 75-year-old man was duped of Rs 1.09 lakh by cyber fraudsters on pretext of a discount offer on D-Mart.
According to the police, the man, a resident of Habsiguda, received an advertisement offer “groceries@298” on Facebook and had submitted his contact details on an online form.
“Afterwards, the man received an APK file on his WhatsApp. When he clicked on the file, his phone was hacked and the fraudsters managed to access bank accounts and withdraw Rs 1.09 lakh from his account,” said the cybercrime police.
The police asked public to be cautious and not to open APK file sent through any communication channel, including WhatsApp.
